Developed goal-tracking widgets to lessen environmental impact.

With a reputation for supporting some of the worlds most important causes, Tonic wanted to share the impact of their business model with a series of cause-tracking Flash widgets. Bringing designers together with critical issues, Tonic creates limited edition products whose proceeds directly benefit the environment, education, social welfare and poverty.

Tonic needed to visually show how consumer sales can have a positive impact on global problems. The end result was a series of widgets that tracked product sales and compared it to respective aid provided by those sales. The Tonic widgets really made it fun and engaging to see results happen in real-time. We loved working with Tonic and Art Director, Justin LaBaw-Rivers, and knowing that these viral tools would encourage positive action. The widgets and goal-trackers were given a clean, polished finish and were kept fresh with an XML feed that updated every second of the day.

Instead of feeding consumer culture with more material products that paid no attention to real-world problems, Tonic’s product line pushes those issues to the forefront. The design of a particular shirt evokes a conversation about families in sub-Saharan Africa who are being ravaged by mosquito-borne malaria. As if this walking advertisement is not enough to stimulate action, for every shirt sold, Tonic will send 3 malaria nets to affected families.
